Your child’s oral health is important, not only to you but also to us! This is why we want to make sure you are well-informed and feel confident when choosing a trusted pediatric dental team. At Waterford Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics of Dublin, we know you have many questions about oral healthcare, which is why we’re here to provide the answers. Review the information below and feel free to call us if you’re ready to schedule an appointment.

Why does my child need six-month dental checkups and cleanings?

Children’s teeth are prone to cavities for many reasons. Poor oral hygiene, novice brushing habits, unhealthy diets, and frequent accidents make them targets for dental decay. With six-month dental checkups and teeth cleanings, a dentist can closely monitor and evaluate whether there are current problems that are putting your child’s oral health at risk. If so, appropriate treatment can be provided to ensure the health and longevity of their smile.

Do you provide special needs dentistry?

Yes, our team at Waterford Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics of Dublin is pleased to provide special needs dentistry to children with intellectual and physical disabilities. Complete with a team of board-certified dentists and staff with advanced training, we can deliver services in an environment that feels safe and comfortable while addressing some of the more challenging oral health problems these children face.

Can my child receive sedation dentistry?

Yes, we offer three types of dental sedation in our Dublin dental practice. Nitrous oxide, IV sedation, and general anesthesia are all options we can discuss during a consultation. Based on your child’s needs as well as their overall health history, we can determine which solution is best to help them remain calm during their appointment.

If my child suffers a dental emergency, what should I do?

The first step you should take is to call our dental office. Some dental emergencies are timelier than others (i.e., a knocked-out tooth), so it’s important that we know right away when there is a problem. Based on the type of injury, we will make the appropriate recommendations so that we can help your child be free from pain and enjoy a damage-free smile.

Are there ways to reduce my child’s chances of developing cavities?

Yes, there are many things you can do to lower your child’s risk of dental decay. In fact, you can:

  • Ensure they practice good oral hygiene habits each day
  • Make sure they visit our dental office for six-month checkups and cleanings
  • Help them to remember to wear a mouthguard before playing sports
  • Pack healthy lunches that are filled with important nutrients, not loaded with sugar and starches

Do you take my dental insurance?

The only way to know if we welcome your dental insurance is to call our office, but there is a good chance we do! As an in-network dentist with multiple PPO dental insurance plans, we partner with various companies to make oral healthcare easy and affordable for our patients. So, if you’re in doubt, don’t be afraid to reach out to our team!
